DBMS - Setting New Standards for Excellence at Sea

30 Nov 2020

DBMS – Dry Bulk Management Standard was developed by RightShip with input from several dry bulk operators and industry experts. DBMS is aimed at being a dry bulk equivalent to the tanker sector TMSA and is advertised as a voluntary, goal-based standard, where ship operators will be assessed against the standard.

At its most basic, it requires companies to meet existing legal requirements (Basic Level). The next three levels (Intermediate Level, Advanced Level and Excellence Level) allow companies to use best practice to raise their standards.

The DBMS sets out 30 areas of management practice within four sections: Performance, People, Plant and Processes. Companies that improve in these four sections will deliver more safe, compliant and reliable operations, gaining a sustainable advantage over their competitors.

In spite DBMS has not been officially launched yet, our Company has considered DBMS as compulsory and strategic goal to reach operational excellence and participated in DBMS working group (project lead Mr. Luke Fisher) by providing the feedback and input at this vital development stage.

Furthermore, our Company has already successfully completed self-assessment on compliance with the first basic level of DBMS within all four parts and working now on the range of achievable goals that will help us to reach excellence in safety, security, environmental and social welfare on board of our vessels and ashore.
